| I thought March was the month for this conversion. Hopefully there have been no delays on this conversion. Please advise as to when this will happen. Thanks rollsman

Do you know, that both Vario-Sonnar's 28-80mm, and 70-200mm, that these originally are SIGMA lens design, especially custom made for Zeiss for the Contax N cameras!
Cheers

| So are you saying that they are more like a Sigma lens than a Zeiss ? (Does that explain why they are the least expensive of the nine Contax N lenses?)

| both the 28-80 and the 70-200 were made to complement the Contax NX both in being less expensive and being lighter in weight. Being designed by sigma may explain why they are the only two N lenses which don't have full time manual focusing. So are these lenses less of a Zeiss lens than the rest?

The optical design of these two "SIGMA lenses" were so good, that they could not have been better made by Zeiss. The also very important mechanical housing part was done due to Zeiss specs. So finally there are two excellent N-lenses with a lower price especially figured for the Contax NX cameras.
I personally was only surprized, because that was the first time to my knowledge, that Zeiss was using an optical Design from a foreign lens manufacturer.
Cheers

I have been the photo adviser for KYOCERA at the Photokina in Cologne and was showing the N-Contax system & lenses, plus a "dummy" model of the Contax N digital in a special Pro-Lounge to interested professionals. So I had almost all the goodies in my hands.
Cheers

Sorry you just told us your credentials but not your source of information. Either 1, you discovered this knowledge yourself somehow, based on some evidence, or 2, somebody else informed you about this. Which is the case?
I have also heard of such a rumour before. No offense intended but I want to know too whether it is just a rumour or it is backed by evidence.
To be honest, I personally don't care. The 70-200 goes for approximately $300 on eBay. If people have no problems accepting a Cosina-made Zeiss lens, they probably would not have any problems with a Sigma-made Zeiss either. I am very happy with the optical quality, and couldn't find any flaws throughout the entire zoom range. The only plausible explanation is that some exotic glass is used. Zeiss never marks their lenses as APO or ED or aspherical.

Don't worry, as long as Carl Zeiss in engraved on these lens front rings, it can be very sure, that these lenses meet the high optical and mechanical Zeiss standards. Otherwise, they would not be on the market!
Greetings

| I am still sending the 70-200 in for conversion. By the time it is converted I would have spent the same amount as what a Canon 70-200/4 non IS goes for - the other alternative was to spend another $700 and get the Canon 70-200/2.8 - but I think I will stick to Zeiss. Cheers.
