|
|
Hi. I've found an 24-85N second hand. On my first visit, it would not autofocus, though the people in the shop said it was working before. I then read the info about "kick-starting" the autofocus on this website, and went back. After turning the manual focus a few times (as suggested), the autofocus started up again.
My question: given it has stopped once, is this going to be recurring problem? Is it the beginning of the autofocus dying? Or is it the case that, now it has started working, it should be fine?
Any help appreciated.

Hi Brett,
This is very hard to say, but what we have learned from experience so far, the more you use the lens, the less likely it gets stuck. The autofocus problem typically occurs when the lens sits on a shelf for an extended period of time.
Would you mind looking up the lens' serial number using our tracking database?

If the "Circuit board#" begins with "10", the lens is equipped with our new third-generation circuit board with improved autofocus reliability for the 24-85. _________________ I am a bird and I uncovered the E, EF and N-mount communication protocols! |

Hi, and thanks for the quick reply. I shall contact the seller and get the serial number.
If anyone can point me to some reviews of the 24-85N on the Canon 5d MkII, I would be interested to see them. There are some mixed messages from what I've seen online. I'm especially wondering how the 24 end compares to Canon's less expensive 24 prime lens.

1, The lens is in fact equipped with our 3rd generation circuit board.
2, The newest as of today is 3.18h, but there is almost no difference from 3.17h of this lens.
Thanks! _________________ I am a bird and I uncovered the E, EF and N-mount communication protocols! |

Many thanks. I've just put a deposit down it, and I'll pick it up next week. I'm looking forward to using it.
